We all know the relief of slipping away from the harshness of reality, if only for a little while. Whether it’s losing ourselves in a great novel or disappearing into a film, these moments of escape can feel like coming up for air when we’re drowning in stress.
Escapism – the act of mentally transporting ourselves to fictional worlds or imaginative experiences – is often misunderstood as mere avoidance.

In truth, it’s a beautifully human strategy for coping, finding meaning, and even building resilience in the face of difficult realities. Rather than a weakness, escapism can be a lifeline, providing comfort and strength when we need it most.
